The female body can face a complex array of muscular concerns throughout life. Whether you have prenatal or postnatal care needs or other muscular concerns, we provide effective solutions through assessment and expert treatment.
Pelvic floor weakness
Weakness or dysfunction of the pelvic floor may lead to prolapse or loss of bladder control. Signs of pelvic floor weakness include leaking during exercise, inability to reach the toilet in time and a feeling of heaviness at the base of the pelvis. Pelvic floor weakness can be caused by:
- pregnancy
- heavy lifting on a regular basis
- respiratory conditions which cause frequent coughing
- low back issues.
As with other muscles in the body, the pelvic floor muscles need retraining post injury or dysfunction. Women’s health physiotherapy can assist with assessing the strength and endurance of the pelvic floor.
We will also ensure the correct technique and exercise program is adopted when strengthening these muscles.
